Am I Ready to Be a Dad?

A suddenly arriving blessing can sometimes be frightening. Am I… really ready to become a father?

Everyone becomes a mom or dad for the first time. They say ‘fear and joy about the first time’ coexist, but honestly speaking, it still doesn’t feel real to me. They say women become aware of being a ‘mother’ from the moment a baby forms in their belly, but I haven’t felt that way. My wife even said, “Honey, isn’t something wrong with you?”…

Still, my child is going to be born, so I need to prepare, but what do I know? While I’m out working during the day, my wife teaches me one by one what I need to prepare.

What My Wife Told Me to Prepare:

First, she says to read lots of prenatal storybooks. Men’s low-pitched voices are transmitted well to the baby through the amniotic fluid. It was embarrassing at first, but for our child, I’ll do anything.

And she says to buy stretch mark cream and apply it to her every day. My woman’s figure and skin are precious. Isn’t this obvious?

And then…? It’s what everyone knows. Going out at 3 AM on a cold December winter night to buy watermelon juice for my wife suffering from morning sickness. Going to famous bakeries to buy bread, buying food whenever her cravings change. That means I need to earn lots and lots of money 🙂

After spending about 6 months like this, before I know it, we’ve entered the 8th month of pregnancy.

From then on, there are many things to prepare in earnest. Purchasing items needed when the baby is born (baby carrier, stroller, baby bottles, sterilizer, etc.), deep cleaning the house, preparing a hospital bag because sudden labor can occur…

Actually, it’s less about preparing to be a dad and more about playing the role of a supporter so that mom can have a comfortable and stable delivery. If you don’t properly fulfill this supporter role at this time, you might be resented by your wife for life, so let’s hang in there.
